Mexico City is located between the high peaks of the volcanoes Ixtaccihuatl and Popocatepetl. It has an old feel to it because of the Latin-American Baroque structures. In other areas, there are also dramatic natural landscapes and beautiful sceneries.
Even though some parts are polluted, the Federal District of Mexico City still drives thousands of tourists every year because of its beautiful streets and neighborhoods. There are 16 districts and 400 communities featuring streets named after famous philosophers and writers, European cities and rivers. Foreigners like to go around the town and discover some of the stories behind the landmarks and places.
The Plaza de la Constitucion is located in the heart of Centro Historico or Historic Center. It is also called Zocalo or pedestal in Aztec. The independence monument was completed during the 1800s and is quite big, rivaling the Red Square in Moscow. The Mexican Army actually has a practice every night to take down and fold the flag neatly. The next day, they raise the flag again to show everyone its beauty and history.
There are many other great places to see around such as the Catedral Metropolitana, which is found on the north side of the square. There are various architectural creations featuring different classic styles. The Great Temple is at the east side with a museum adjacent to it that features ancient artifacts. The National Palace is at the east, where the President holds office. You will also find several great paintings there by top artists.
