When you get a gift certificate, you may feel relieved that you do not have to deal with getting items that you already own or do not want. Some people end up giving away the gift they just receive because they either do not need it or they already have two of the same thing.
Gift cards or gift certificates will guarantee that you can get items that you truly wish for or need. Whenever I get a gift card, I can buy almost anything because it works just like cash. I purchase video games, toys, shirts, shoes and anything else that I like, depending on the value of the card. If the item costs more than the amount on the card, I simply add more cash.
Some people also prefer handing out gift cards to take out the guesswork when finding the right present for a special someone. You can actually keep several of these then hand them out when anyone is celebrating a special day. You do not have to worry about forgetting to bring a gift for any person.
Gift certificates also have some drawbacks, such as the expiry date. Some people do not get to use these at all or forget to claim the card after a reasonable period of time. As a result, stores will turn down any redemption attempt. Make sure that you redeem the gift certificate on or before the time designated. Some gift cards are also only redeemable in certain locations, so it may be difficult for some people to claim at all especially if they live in a different state or country.
