The flag of the United States of America is one of the most famous flags in the world. Regardless of the size, people anywhere can immediately tell that these are American flags. The banner will also feature the familiar blue, red and white tones as well as the stars and stripes. It would be hard not to tell it apart from other flags.
Aside from the 50 stars and 13 stripes on the flag, there are other things to know about the American banner. It is also referred to as the Stars and Stripes, the Star-Spangled Banner and the Old Glory. The USA is one of the most powerful nations in the world so people looking at the American flag will usually equate it with wealth and power.

The flag is generally shown only until dusk. The banner is raised early in the morning and then brought down again before it gets dark. Some flags are displayed 24 hours a day. However, it is ideal to provide proper lighting when the flag is flying at night. The flag should also be taken down if there is a storm coming.
If a flag is shown upside down, it might connote something else, such as danger, war or a national concern. Sometimes, people would wave the flag in an upside down manner to indicate that there is a war raging.

France was actually the first country that recognized the American flag as a symbol of the United States. France assisted the United States against the British during the War of Independence.
