The American flag is a flag that embodies a very unique and rich history of amazing discoveries, key events, great personalities, and a constant slew of triumphs over seemingly overwhelming challenges. It is always a great to sit down and read about the greatness of the human spirit, especially embedded in a symbolic piece of fabric covering one of the greatest nations on earth.
Basically speaking, any true blue blooded patriot of the United States would agree to the idea that the American flag stands for the national sentiment of the whole country. May it be liberty, justice, equality, freedom, and what have you, the flag is the symbol of all these virtues that make up the citizenry of this proud country.
Describing it, the American flag is a full sized flag which is a combination of fifteen alternating horizontal stripes of red and white, with a secluded section at the upper left corner that is instead blue, filled with fifty white stars. Each of the stars stand for each current US state there is. The thirteen alternating stripes symbolize the thirteen original colonies which rose up to the call of independence from the British colonists.

The original flag of the current United States of America is attributed to the design of a certain Betsy Ross, who was mainly responsible for the idea of the stars. This was contrary to the other star design preferred by former president George Washington that had six points instead of five. While being at the head of the triumphant Continental army, the former president showed the design to Betsy Ross, who then finally came up with the design for the first American flag, which first rose on January 1, 1776.
