The well known organization Alcoholics Anonymous is a rather well known non-profit group composed of people from different professions who aim to bring about sobriety to alcohol dependent persons. Usually these alcoholics are unable to control their urges to just go grab an alcoholic drink and satisfy their taste. Despite some expected naysayers saying that the organization is a cult or a religious program, it is very much untrue as the main objective of the organization is to discretely accommodate alcoholics and reform them back into original.
As of 2004, there have been an estimated 10,000 alcoholic individuals helped all across the United States and Canada alone, and with that number the estimated rate for continuous sobriety has been 8 years, continuously receiving counseling and spiritual therapies from colleagues within the system.
One of the programs that goes in line with the original Alcoholics Anonymous is the Sober Sources Network, which has a great resource bank of manpower, teachings, and services that support those afflicted with the addiction among other forms. With the 12-step program that has been quite popularly associated with the organization itself, it has been found effective given the sheer number of alcoholics reformed into a sober state, and back into productive status.
Since there is the issue of shame and privacy for those who would want to change back in to normal, the main theme of the group which is to provide a discrete cell group of individuals help one another through spiritual fellowship has been a good answer for most concerns.
