Nowadays, it is not surprising to find some people addicted to a certain activity or perhaps substance. While some may shrug off an acute episode of addiction due to its interesting theme for the individual, some have been totally sucked into the addiction because of a perceived need for the specific thing. More often than not, this type of addiction is quite severe that the normal productivity and function of being a social being is affected much as well. The well known organization Alcoholics Anonymous is a rather well known non-profit group composed of people from different professions who aim to bring about sobriety to alcohol dependent persons. The presence of the Alcoholics Anonymous flag in your neighborhood means that there are concerned citizens who would want to help out those who need assistance in curbing the uncontrollable urge to drink excessively. Now, before anyone would be reacting why an Alcoholics Anonymous flag would ever be created when in fact the organization is all about secrecy and from the general public, having such flag is not necessarily for the public to see being carried by a member of it. Instead, it may very well be just a flag used by a conductor of meetings and servicemen who would want to get the message across town that the group is recognized in the locality.
Alcoholism is more of a person’s lack of will to resist the urge to go on a drinking spree on alcohol, thereby getting severely drunk and wasted in the process. It may be akin to addiction, or perhaps may have been found as a psychological necessity as to water is for everyone else. Physical dependence to the substance is observed to the alcoholic, one which may cause withdrawal symptoms if resisted. Another is the inability to stop when the drinking spree has started.
The fellowship of the Alcoholics Anonymous was created to address the increasing number of people falling prey into alcoholism, organizing peer counseling sessions and therapy in the hopes of correcting the psychosocial deviance. As a goal, getting alcoholic individuals back to sobriety is the main drive for these organizations. Through counseling and being able to share experiences with other alcoholics, individuals would have a stronger grasp with overcoming the affliction.

Having an Alcoholics Anonymous flag raised in your place would mean that there is a session somewhere to help those in need of overcoming alcoholism. You could say its presence is a positive sign for social service and improvement.

Alcoholics Anonymous has become a worldwide movement for people who wish to get over their addiction to drinking liquor or beer. Many alcoholics feel that they can never be sober again. AA is not a cult and intends to help alcoholics finally get over their problems for good.
A survey was conducted by AA in 2004 which covered about 10,000 people in the United States and Canada. According to the survey, a person can become fully sober after eight years. Many people who joined AA were given sound advice and incorporated spiritual methods to fully understand their situation and accept their weakness. The treatments helped people return to their normal lives.
There is also a new network called Sober Sources Network which supports Alcoholics Anonymous. The network allows people to share their experiences and problems. They also encourage others to share their methods and how the 12-step program has benefited them in the long term.
Alcoholism is a treatable problem, no matter how long it might take. Some people refer to the internet to get the best advice from experts as well as simply vent out their frustrations in a forum if they feel like giving up. Information is also forwarded to family, friends and other individuals who can support the recovering alcoholic and keep him alcohol-free for life. Alcoholics Anonymous is the best group there is for people who need a way out without having to reveal their identity. They can empathize with new addicts as well and those suffering from drug abuse.

When a person is described as an alcoholic, he has no control when it comes to drinking alcoholic beverages. Alcoholics cannot survive a day without drinking an ounce of beer or liquor.
