The other person linked to the history of the American flag is Francis Scott Key who was a lawyer, book writer and a poet. He mentioned the Star-Spangled Banner in the poem he wrote in 1812 during world war. This became the lyrics to the American national anthem. It is said that it was composed to fit a tune or melody that originated from an old English drinking song entitled To Anacreon in Heaven.
