What parade or rally could ever be called as such without those things that wave, twirl up into the air held with ease and expertise by those high flying damsels? This is in reference to those band majorettes and cheerleaders dotting the air with their spectacular routines. This sport is pep flag named after the twirlers flags that cheerleading angels use whenever they perform. The twirler flags give such events the festive mood, making these items gain popularity especially in pop culture. They have even been featured in one of music industry’s popular icon Gwen Stefani’s Hollaback Girl video.

The cheerleading business may have a lot of breath taking routines such as kicklines and pyramids that can draw gasps of amazement from the crowd, it is the twirler flags that give the occasion color and paint the event as happy contributing to its rising popularity. Flag dancing and cheerleading are not the same as they have different routines. The twirler flags are more on the personalized side which is made for the purpose of fitting the requirements of competitions which puts emphasis on grace, flag designs and colors.

During flag routines, you can see one to two flags being featured in synchronicity with the movement of the participants. This display allows the twirler flags to float in the air wowing the crowd with the spectacular wave of color.

Gaining traction, competitions abound for twirler flags. Some areas in the southern part of California are into these events. You have schools in the regions participating into these competitions. Carson High Schools is the three time title holder in almost all competitions held in the US. They are that same team featured in the Hollaback Girl music video. Competitions featuring twirler flags in the US are the Regional and National Events of the United Spirit Association and the Miss Dance Drill/ Team USA.

Evolution is not confined to one frontier anymore. These flags are a testament to that. No longer  mere decorations, the twirler flags found center stage.
