The American flag is the foremost symbol of nationalistic pride by the citizenry, where blood, sweat, tears, and melded together with liberty and justice for all is embodied. Yes it may just look like a simple piece of rectangular cloth adorned with the union symbol (stars) and stripes, but its actual value exceeds far more than any individual’s worth much like any other national flags.
Therefore, acknowledging it and giving due respect is imperative to any proud citizen. From proper handling and care, to displaying it in public, etiquette should be observed without exception.
For instance, hanging the flag on its proper side up is a must for any American flag. The union symbol should be on the upper left corner when displayed horizontally. Those who would like a twist in the image of the flag such as hanging it vertically would be well off with a simple quarter clockwise turn, making the union symbol be located now at the upper right hand corner. Take note that at any time should the flag NOT be allowed to touch the ground as it would show negligence in causing it to get dirtied up, so make sure that your flag is situated high enough with clearance from the floor.
As for displaying ethics, a public show of allegiance and support to the American flag would entail a great sense of pride as well. Large event areas such as open fields, convention centers, ballrooms, and other wide clearance areas should be used to its full potential to be able to display the national flag. In this regard, the flag should be seen publicly as easily as possible, and definitely unobstructed from the view of others.
Conventions may serve as guidelines, but with American flags, it would be best to take these by heart as if they were mandated rules.
