When publicly displaying the American flag, one has to make sure that the orientation and the manner in which the flag is hoisted denotes nothing but the highest regard. As for those who would like to hang the flags vertically, the stars should be placed on the top and right. Sounds confusing? As for indoor use, such as ballrooms and auditoriums, one has to make sure that the American flag is properly oriented in placement, plus make sure that the whole flag is clearly visible and unobstructed to the general public. As for those who are thinking where to place the American flag during stage events, a rule of thumb would be to place the flag to the right of the podium wherever the speaker is located. That is the reason why the speaker is usually seen at the left side of the stage from the audience point of view. This allows the right side of the speaker to be near the edge of the stage for the flag to be unobstructed from view of the audience.
