A flash collar is described as a decorative piece that covers the base of an outdoor collar. Primarily, it provides a very sleek and neat appearance to the flag setup. Also, the flash collar protects the base of the flagpole from deterioration caused by water seeping in from the outside. With a good quality collar, the pole will be kept safe from rust development and other contaminants. You will find the accessory at the bottom of the pole where the base meets the ground or cement block. It covers the hole where flagpole is set up.
You will find a variety of flash collars from online stores and flagpole manufacturers. The material is generally made of aluminum although you will also find other types available such as iron, steel and copper. The size will also vary depending on the size or diameter of the flagpole. The outside diameter can range from eight inches to over 40 inches.
When getting a flash collar, be sure to measure the diameter of the flagpole so that the collar can properly accommodate and fit through. The collar may be installed when setting up the flagpole itself or may be used for existing and standing poles. Simply take out the flag and fit the collar through the top and let it slide to the base. Some people apply adhesives to the collar to keep it from moving and seal the base to protect the pole from the outer elements. There are also collars that come with designs or different colors depending on your personal preference.
