Other than being mistakenly viewed as the masculine gender, Male (Ma-leh) is the capital of the proud and wonderful country of Maldives. Flying the red and green Maldives flag with the crescent moon in the center, the city is one of the many – 26 atolls in all that offer a breathtaking view of the sea with its world class beach resorts and natural wonders. It is a must see destination for any visitors and tourists alike.
Culturally rich Maldives is home to some of the old mosques such as the 17th century Hukuru Miski Mosque. Being the oldest mosque in the island nation, it is known for its coral carvings and headstones in its adjacent cemetery. At the sultan’s park is the National Museum housing the rich heritage of the country as it started, until it became a colony then protectorate and finally as an independent nation in the 1960’s
Then there is the Jumhoorie Maidan, known for its flag post, and lush lawns overlooking the ocean vistas. Another art-rich site is the Esjehi Art Gallery, known to be an art lover’s paradise in the country. This area, being on the other side of the cultural spectrum is in contrast with the Male Fish Market which shows the reality and art of being one with the local folk of Maldives.

What self respecting tourist of Maldives would be in the country without staying in one of the world renowned resorts such as the Kuramathi Island Resort, with its utterly stunning beach front of white sand and fresh ocean breeze opening up to the Indian Ocean. With all these beautiful places to visit, it would not be a surprise if one would soon grab one of the Maldives flags and head over to the island paradise for a unique getaway.
