The paradise republic of Maldives is so called because of the sheer ratio of sea to land mass, with a boasting array of beach resorts scattered across the 26 atolls it is comprised of. Very much in contrast to the color of the Maldives Flag, the sheer blue scenery is a twist to the red and green tandem it uses as its national colors. Even with only around 1% land mass, and the smallest population in the world with less than half a million residents, it is still not without a rich history and cultural distinction.
After the tourist destinations involving beaches and resorts for this beautiful island nation, there are also some culturally rich monuments that are noteworthy for tourists to consider visiting. One would be the Grand Friday Mosque, which is the largest mosque in the archipelago. Able to house 5,000 worshippers at any one time, it is a grand display of the Islamic influence with its finely detailed and engraved calligraphy and the golden dome it is well known for.
Another site inland would be the Mulee Aage which is the former presidential palace of this proud nation. Siturated just a few meters from the Grand Friday Mosque, this palace is a testament to the splendor of Maldives even during British rule.
Presently a free nation capable of exercising sovereign powers among the other nations, Maldives is a thriving tourist destination of naturally occurring wonders and white sand beaches that tourists from across the globe would definitely love to visit.
