When you see the official flag of the United States of America, you will think of many great things and ideas brought about by the founding fathers. Some of these include peace, unity, strength andperseverance. The flag also has many names like “The Old Glory” and“The Stars and Stripes”. Regardless of the name, the banner has enlightened and strengthened many Americans in times of trouble such as the September 11 attacks.
There are now 13 stripes on the flag consisting of seven red stripes and six white stripes. These are placed in alternating fashion on the banner. The stripes represent the first 13 colonies in the UnitedStates. Through the decades, the stars grew in number so there are now50 in all, one for each state. The red represents strength, the white represents purity and the blue represents justice.
The 50 states also have their own state flags. When visiting government buildings of the different states, you will notice unique banners with symbols representing their values and local treasures.
The U.S. flag should be shown respect regardless of the location. Itshould be taller than other flags beside it.
The flag should also be destroyed ceremoniously when it is old and torn. The flag should not touch the soil or be lower than any citizen.There are several other rules on how to care for and maintain the banner.
The number of stars increased through the years. Now, every American looking at the United States flag will find inner peace and strength.
