People do not follow a national dress code in the United Kingdom. Scotland’s official attire is the kilt, while people in Wales usually wear a long skirt, shawl and petticoat. The customs and practices covering attires in the United Kingdom usually involve individuals like the Beefeater or Queen’s Guard. There are also special costumes for the May or Morris dancer. These are all included in the list of traditional English attires.
Many British literary works are written in English. There are also poems, books and novels written in Scottish Gaelic, Latin, Welsh, Cornish, Jerriais and other languages. The United Kingdom is also famous for being the home of people like William Wordsworth, William Shakespeare, William Golding, Lord Byron, William Blake, Thomas Hardy and Jane Austen among others.
There are many folk dances in England like the Rapper Sword dance, Morris dance, May dance and Long Sword dance. The Strathspeys is one of the old dances in Scotland.
In classical music, the United Kingdom also contributed much. Some of the famous people in music include Edward Elgar, Benjamin Bitten, William Byrd, John Taverner and William Walton. The London Philharmonic Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra are also located in the UK. Over time, many bands have become well-recognized throughout the world like Pink Floyd, Queen, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and The Rolling Stones among others.
Even today, many of the practices and customs in the United Kingdom were inspired by practices and religious beliefs that started centuries ago. You will appreciate these more when you visit in person.
