Many people would immediately answer Rome, Italy when asked where they wish to have a big vacation. The culture and history of the place is very rich, dating back centuries. There are still many structures and items found around Rome that point to its historic past. Rome is the capital of Italy and everywhere, you will find old churches, cathedrals, museums, artifacts and heirlooms. Some of these are thousands of years old, while others refer to the practices and spiritual nature of the people during ancient times.
You will discover a lot of things when visiting Rome because of its culture and background. However, try to look for these three areas when in the capital to widen your knowledge.
1. The Pantheon is known as the ancient temple of the Gods of Olympus. In ancient times, people would worship the ancient gods and goddesses in Rome. People like to come to the capital to witness the ancient structures and architectural wonders. Today, the place is still a church for many people. It also houses the tombs of Italy’s first king and the artist Raphael. The Piazza Della Rotonda is another must-visit place in Rome.
2. The Colosseum is another architectural wonder with a very rich history. It was the place where gladiators fought during big events. Slaves and warriors alike would fight each other and wild beasts to the delight of the Roman crowds.
3. The Trevi fountain is another great site to see in Rome. It is one of the most frequently visited places in the city. People would gather around especially during the height of the tourist season.
