The United States flag is arguably the most popular flag on Earth. Regardless of the size, American flags are easy to see from various distances. These contain the usual elements and colors like red, white and blue, the stars and the stripes. People would not usually mistake it for other national flags.
The flag contains 50 white stars and 13 alternating blue red and white stripes. There are also several names that the flag is known for, such as the Star-Spangled Banner, Old Glory and the Stars and Stripes. The USA is a powerful nation, so the flag is almost synonymous to strength and great wealth.
Usually, the flag is featured only during daytime. Once it gets dark, the flag is brought down to be kept. There are some places where the American flag is hoisted 24 hours daily, although special lighting is provided at night. The flag is almost always brought down during bad weather to keep it safe from tears and deteriorating. Sometimes, the flag might be displayed upside-down, which means that there is a pending war or danger. Some countries also display their flags upside-down in times of war.

The initial country that took notice of the American flag as a symbol of the United States was France. France actually helped the USA against Great Britain during the War of Independence. The idea of independence pushed Americans to appreciate freedom and liberty above all. Americans should always take notice of the flag when they see it and offer respect.
