Custom Street Pole Banners - Custom Feather Flags

Thursday, December 10, 2015
At present, the Canadian flag comes in colors white and red. These were the main colors prepared by King George V in 1921. The flag features vertical stripes that are positioned on both sides of the banner and consume about one-fourth of the total flag. The middle is white with a maple leaf with 11 points. Many Canadians call the banner the “Maple Leaf Flag” and it is widely recognized round the world. Canadians before after 1964 will immediately know the flag anywhere.
It was in 1964 that the Canadian government chose to adopt a new national flag. Canadians used to be separated by both ethnicity and demographics which made it necessary to come up with a symbolic banner that will unite the people. Before World War II, English Canadians needed a flag that would represent the British background of Canada. French Canadians, however, did not wish to include the Union Jack and other symbols of their previous colonization. One-third of the people were not French or British Canadian. They were aiming for a new look that would break away from their past.

This was when the new and distinct national banner was created in 1964. A special committee was formed to look for the best design for the new flag. There were three designs proposed to the group. The first included a flag with a red ensign with the Union Jack and fleur-de-lis. The second featured three maple leaves and two blue borders. The third, which is the present banner, was the red and white flag with one maple leaf.
