Puerto Rico is a small area of land in United States territory that is an archipelago in nature. Though the land size is small compared to other territories in US, the country is known to be beautiful. The people living in the country are proud to be called Puerto Ricans. Indeed size does not matter because throughout the years this country continuously proves its strength as it shows power over other countries that are bigger. Although the country also had difficult times to promote and uphold its traditions and culture. One of these traditions is by having a tattoo.
Having a tattoo may be a taboo to many places but for Puerto Ricans this plays an integral part of their culture. In Puerto Rico, people are expressive and a popular way to express their emotions is through tattoos.
As mentioned, Puerto Ricans are proud of their country. This is why many of them chose to have the Puerto Rico flag as their tattoo. The flag design consists of 3 red and 2 white alternating horizontal stripes, and a star at the middle of a blue triangle that is located at the left side of the flag.
The white stripes represent liberation and freedom of Puerto Ricans while the red stripes represents blood shed that transpired on the three branches of the democratic government. The white star symbolizes Commonwealth which was attained in 1951. On the other hand, the blue triangle symbolizes the government.
Because of what Puerto Rico’s flag means to its people, this is considered as one of the greatest and most popular tattoos for it represents their roots and their pride.
