Based on the policy that first made the Brazilian flag official, the colors were maintained to let others know about the big achievements that the country had in the past several years.
Many think that the yellow and green hues originated from the vast lands and natural wonders of Brazil, such as its beautiful beaches, lush forests and mountains filled with gold and minerals. The blue color represents the blue sky while the stars are for every state of Brazil. The blue circle is also indicative of the beautiful blue sky of the capital city, Rio de Janeiro. On November 15, 1889 at about 8:30 a.m. the flag was established during the Republic proclamation.
The stars let people know about the states of Brazil. There are five stars in all with various measurements. These are also arranged into nine constellations. At the center of the blue circle, you will see the South Cross. The flag is revered and honored by citizens regardless of their location.
Every November 19, people celebrate national flag day where they wave and display different sizes of the Brazilian flag. The flag also has its original song, with the music prepared by Francisco Braga, and the lyrics written by Olavo Bilac. The song was first featured in 1906.

The national flag of Brazil is available for any purposes. It is used by the military troops, government officials and citizens for sports events and festivals. When mourning, people also raise the flag at half-mast to show respect to their dearly departed.
