The flag of Brazil is one of the popular flags in the world. This is mostly popularized due to the popularity of the country in the FIFA World Cup. Other than just seeing the Brazilian flag, it will be best appreciated if the history and significance of the flag will be known too.
The flag of Brazil was designed by Décio Vilares and projected by Raimundo Teixeira Mendes and Miguel Lemos in November 19, 1889. The flag that we see now is actually the second version since the republic was proclaimed. This is even the third since Brazil’s independence. The flag has several symbolisms like the national weapons, the national seal, and the national hymn and of course the flat which is considered as the fourth official national symbol by the Federal Constitution.
The flag has the following distinctive features: the green field, the yellow diamond that is superimposed, and the blue circle inside it. Inside the blue circle are 27 stars. These stars represent the states of Brazil. Also, at the middle of the clue circle is like a white stripe with printed words that say “Ordem e Progresso” or which means Order and Progress.
What actually inspired the flag design was the imperial flag that was designed by a French painter who is Jean Baptiste Debret in 1820. The shapes and colors of the old imperial flag was kept the same for the first version of the national flag. The colors of green and yellow were the colors of the Portuguese royal families.
