The official flag of Brazil was first established on November 19, 1889. It was designed by Decio Vilares and the project was managed by Miguel Lemos and Raimundo Teixeira Mendes. The national flag you find today is actually the second, since the republic was instituted. Since the Independence of the country, the present flag is the third. As far as the Brazilian Federal Republic is concerned, the current flag is the fourth already. Other symbols of Brazil include its national song, the national seal and national weapons.
The flag of Brazil can easily be identified because of its unique colors and elements. The base color is green. Then there is a yellow diamond in the middle and a blue circle inside it. Inside the blue circle, there are 27 white stars which stand for each of the states of the country. The blue circle also features a white stripe at the center. The words “Ordem e Progresso” is written in the middle which stands for “Order and Progress”. The flag was designed by Jean Baptiste Debret, a french artist in 1820. The imperial flag greatly inspired the national flag of Brazil. It already featured several elements that are available on the flag you see today. The colors and figures are very much the same. The act that made the flag official was signed in 1822.
Many features seen on the Brazilian flag today still includes those that were found on the old imperial flag. The colors stand for the royal family of Portugal. The House of Braganca is represented by green, while the House of Habsburgo is represented by yellow.
