Years ago, flags were invented with the sole purpose of providing identity to the people living in a given territory. Today, flags are used to identify a country, a state, an athletic team or even a school to enumerate a few.

So today, people buy flags to commemorate events, to portray their favorite past times, to announce their club affiliations or pledge devotion to a particular sports team. As holidays are always right around the corner, flags used to as buntings during a holiday are popular as well.
