Custom Street Pole Banners - Custom Feather Flags

Friday, July 24, 2015
Flags have always been an important part of world history. The first kind of flag was known as a vexilloid. These were made of metal or wooden poles that had carvings at the peak. Around 2,000 years ago, several pieces of fabric were also placed on a number of vexilloids for aesthetic reasons, which became the standard flag. Some custom flag purposes have changed over time, but flags have been used widely by various people and organizations through the centuries. Even today, flags are still as important as these were before, being a means of communication and representation among groups.
In the past, flags were used for many purposes. In the medieval period, knights wore a lot of armor and were hard to recognize, so flags were waved during battle to indicate where troops were positioned and to differentiate allies from enemies. The white flag later on became a symbol of surrender. Even now, waving a white flag will easily mean giving up. Soldiers who wave a white flag will no longer be shot at. Many soldiers will make white flags out of different materials that they find because these are normally not brought into battle. They might use a torn shirt or rag just to show their enemies that they are no longer capable of fighting.

Other flags have also become quite common symbols even in current times, such as pirate flags. The skull and crossbones would immediately tell people that a ship is manned by pirates. A pirate flag waved by another vessel will instill fear to others. World flags are also flown every year during a nation’s Flag Day.
