Custom Street Pole Banners - Custom Feather Flags

Friday, July 24, 2015
Any kind of custom flag will deteriorate after several weeks or months, despite the tough materials used. After some time, you might notice that your flag will develop a number of holes, tears and minor damage.
The U.S. government plans a standard flag to last for a minimum of 90 days especially when used daily from morning until dusk. The flag may also be removed during bad weather. Some flags are displayed 24 hours so these are expected to deteriorate faster compared to the ones that are brought down during sunset.
You should consider the various factors that will shorten the lifespan of a flag like sunlight, rain or moisture, strong wind and other outdoor elements like smoke and dirt. The flag should be removed during harsh weather conditions to extend its lifespan.
There are plenty of ways to make your custom flag last longer:
1. Take down the banner during bad weather. Strong wind and rain during storms can easily tear and damage the flag. The fabric will expand and contract as it accumulates a lot of water. Rain will also cause damage to the flag after some time because of the constant expanding and contraction. If the flag is wet, take it down to dry well before displaying it again. If you leave the flag on the pole to dry on its own, the material will stretch for as long as there is moisture because of the added weight.
2. Clean always. Make it a habit to regularly clean the flag, taking out dirt and other damaging elements that might have stuck on the material. The banner should be cleaned using warm water and mild soap. You can also wash the flag by hand which will maintain the fabric more. Wash water can damage the material quickly and run the color on other parts. The American flag can also be brought to the local dry cleaning shop. There are specialists that can clean it without damaging the fabric.
3. The fly end of the banner must be free. Do not let the flag hang with one end against the ground or an object like a tree or pole. This will prevent tears and other damage.
4. Observe the flag condition. Over time, you might see holes, rips and tears. These should be repaired immediately. Do not leave the damage to get bigger by ignoring it.
The flag is a symbol of pride and patriotism for many people. You should learn how to give it the respect it deserves. The material should be protected against outdoor elements. Even the pole should be cleaned regularly to keep the setup in pristine condition day and night.

The United States Flag will last a long time if you maintain it properly. Some banners have to be retired properly when these are already damaged severely. Do not present a severely damaged banner because it is a sign of disrespect. There are some groups that hold ceremonies to retire the flag properly. You might wish to surrender the damaged flag to the Boy Scouts or Veterans of Foreign War who can dispose of it the right way.
