There are plenty of misconceptions on what and how to dispose the American flag. And there is one organisation in the country has the objective to inform the public about the right way to dispose this important flag, that group is called the American Legion. One popular misconception is that if the country flag hits the ground it must be automatically be put down to retire and be destroyed. This misunderstanding caused some to avoid displaying flags hits the ground. However, it is right that if a flag accidentally hits the ground it must be corrected right away but it must never be a basis to immediately dispose it.

Aside from the American Legion that provides information about American flag disposal, the country has provided a guideline, the United States Flag Code, which outlines the proper way of using the flag especially at government buildings. Citizens followed this rules to show respect to this significant representation of the country. But there is a right given to the citizens indicated in the first amendment of the constitution that they can desecrate the American flag as a sign of protest, this is part of their freedom of speech and expression. The government does not hide if some citizens complain about the government. This is a proof that people has freedom to express their sentiments, one of the factors that show that such country is open minded and this what makes them progressive compared to other countries.

If the United States flag is beyond repair, it must be brought to the local American Legion base so it can be properly disposed.
