One of the most common symbols found on any flag is the star. America, Philippines, and a whole lot other countries use a star as reference for their sovereignty. Even the national anthem of USA, the “Star Spangled Banner” makes good reference of a star as a shining beacon of hope and freedom. Many other nations have modifications of their star such as Israel’s Star of Judas which is a 6-pointed star instead of the usual 5. While many countries take an indirect reference for their religion or faith, there is one distinct country which literally takes the biblical reference way directly. It is the Dominican Republic Flag.
The Dominican Republic Flag has a similar color design as with other free countries have. The red, white, and blue, which stand for liberty and justice for all are also found in the motif of the Dominican flag. Even if one of the most prominent countries sporting the same scheme is America, the Dominican’s design was patterned after that of Haiti’s – which was the previous sovereign of that land. The additional white central cross separating the red and the blue was said to have been added by the father of the Trinitarians’ Juan Pablo Duarte. The white cross is said to be the symbol of faith between liberty and the bloodshed that went along to attain it.

What makes the country’s flag design even more unique is the use of a bible – yes a literal image of a bible as its central image surrounded with four mini flag designs attached with spears. It is found right in the center of the flag design at the middle of the cross. The Dominican Republic flag is a staunch supporter of the faith brought about by the Holy book itself.
